Carving by Jamie Russel

Show & Tell - compiled by Dave Armstrong

Gordon Munn
Gordon showed us two clocks, one was made of Manitoba Maple. It is finished with walnut oil and carnauba wax.  The second clock is made of Yew, it was turned to produce a nice rim on the clock.  It is finished with walnut oil and carnauba wax.

Mark Noete
Mark showed us two items.  The first is a large turned bowl of big leaf maple.  It was finished with Yorkshire Grit and carnauba wax.   The second was a vessel of box elder and wenge.  It was finished using the beal polishing system and wax.

Cam Harder
Cam showed us a 3D carving of a golden eagle.  He had carved a good portion of it several years ago and just recently finished carving the remainder.  It is was carved from butternut and finished with walnut oil.  Cam was unhappy with the splotches in the finish and asked for suggestions as how to fix it.  Some suggestions were to use sandpaper, a fine file or steel wool to open the grain.  Another suggestion was to us a pre-conditioner before the oil finish is applied.

Kevin Brehon
Kevin showed us two items, one was a keepsake box, the box proper was made of white oak, the top is made of basswood and spruce in a kumiko pattern.  The top has a fabric backing.  The box is finished with shellac.

The second item was a lamp done in kumiko style.  The frame is white oak dyed with black leather dye.  The panels are basswood and spruce.  It is finished with shellac.  Kevin had wanted to reduce the labour that he has to put into a project, however the frame of leather dyed white oak proved to be a time consumer!

Kelly-Robin Belamy
Kelly-Robyn showed us a part of a gun which someone was to have a replicate made.

Deomo

Vic Schapansky did a great job showing us a dovetail jig he made using plans from a WoodSmith magazine. The final jig was a work of art made from oak, hardware and a comb made from hardboard. He brought a few samples to show how the jig was used.

Thanks Vic for showing us this.
