About 24 members and a couple of visitors arrived for our new start time of 7:00. A lively sharing of summer excursions, woodworking adventures and upcoming plans occupied everyone until the meeting was called to order at 7:00 by Kevin Brehon. Thanks Kevin for stepping in for Kelly-Robyn our president who was unable to attend.

Show and Tell
Thanks to Dave Armstrong for the writeup and for Ri Smith for taking the pictures.
Vic Schapansky: Vic showed us two items, the first was a turned box of Manitoba maple. The box has vivid red streaks, it is finished with tung oil and lacquer.

He also showed us a dovetail jig. It was build from a plan in Woodsmith magazine. Vic built 5 combs, 2 of which were acceptable. The jig makes half blind dovetails. He showed us an example of the finished dovetails.

Trent Watts: Trent showed us a piece titled “Choose your own gender.” It is turned from juniper, hollowed, sanded and finished with buffing and wax.

Bernard Nagel: A wind storm felled a mountain ash in his back yard. Bernard turned it green, he had sap flying all over! He turned two vases, several ornaments – a snow man, an angel and a bell – and several tea light candle holders.

Mel Genge. Mel showed us two types of pepper mills with corresponding salt shakers. They were made of walnut and maple and finished with Watco oil. One set had a metal mechanism whereas the other had a ceramic mechanism.

Steve Kroeger: Steve’s family had stories of a casket in the house, collecting whittling shavings. He decided to build one, he prototyped it in plywood. When he was happy with the prototype, he made a real casket from red oak and finished it with Danish oil. His father was impressed with it and was buried in it! He built a second one, in which he recently buried his mother in.

Chelsea Sander: Chelsea took a carving class from Paul Perron. She carved a face in cotton wood bark and finished it with double boiled linseed oil.

Demo
Trent Watts gave a presentation about the ‘Saskatchewan Woodworkers’ Guild’ website. Using the projector and a laptop he showed the variour pages and areas for people to explore. Some suggestions for improvement were presented and much appreciated.
Ri Smith then went over some communication changes where we are going to include social media integration and have the newsletter and other communications more visible for the website.
Door prizes
After a break there were a few business items to discuss and the Door Prize draw for four $25.00 gift certificates. Two from Great West Saw and two from Lee Valley.
